Delhi incident

Another rape and murder has occurred in Delhi. The Delhi police has caught the perpetrator quickly. The law enforcement agencies have done an excellent job. There is one issue here, though. Why is it that heinous crimes are rising in the country? The reason is that nobody is afraid of the law. Why is this so? Society and judiciary are too liberal. Crimes like theft are considered to be commonplace and let off very lightly by the criminal justice system. The criminal gets emboldened and commits more crimes. Some graduate to politics and become role models for others in society who feel that crime pays. Harsh punishment is not given. Bail is the norm. Accused have too many human rights. The possibility of reform is oft quoted as a ground for diluting punishment. All this liberalism is leading society nowhere. It is all misplaced. Due to all this, criminals get emboldened more and more and more and more people turn criminals. Persons accused of rape and murder are often let off citing juvenility. Loopholes are taken advantage of by the criminals. Death punishment is given in only the so called ""rarest of rare"" cases. Sentences are diluted citing procedural delays or the possibility of reform of the criminals. Criminals serving life sentences are released citing good behaviour or some obscure provisions in the law after a few years. In this whole process, the victim is lost sight of. Will all the liberalism of society bring the dead girl back? An innocent life nipped in the bud by a criminal. What about her parents and family? The trauma they have will last their lifetimes. Misplaced sympathy for criminals is leading society nowhere, except leading to more and more horrendous crime. Perpetrators of heinous crime should be given a jury trial since judges have become inured to crime. For judges, crime is so commonplace that it has lost its horror. Bail should not be the norm. Enlarging heinous criminals upon bail should be done carefully. Harsh sentences should be the norm. A high security prison in the Lakshdweep islands should be constructed for perpetrators of heinous crimes like rape and murder and criminals sent there for life, never to return to society. All this liberalism and prison reform like open jails and what not are actually harmful for society and leading to severe increase in crime. What we need is zero tolerance for crime. Otherwise, society should be prepared for more and more crime and more and more pain. Does society want that only criminals should have rights and decent citizens continue suffering at the hands of criminals for ever?

Pay parity

Pay parity for similar job is a common issue - whether private sector or public sector. In fact, within the government too, there would be different remuneration for similar job. It remains to be seen how the issue is resolved as it continues to crop up every now and then. Teaching is a noble profession, which should be given a special preference. There should be a minimum which should be paid for doing the job, irrespective of the classes a teacher teaches, or the gender or the sector in which the person is working. Teachers should given a place of pride, not merely on the teacher's day.
