Bankers, private school teachers to be deputed for census duty
The Ministry of Home Affairs has amended the Census Rules, 1990, allowing bank employees, including clerks and officials, and employees of public sector undertakings, companies, institutions, societies and trusts to be appointed as Census enumerators. Teachers from government, aided and unaided private educational institutions are also eligible. State governments and Union Territory administrations may appoint any other person they consider suitable. The Census (Amendment) Rules, 2026, notified on October 16, have come into force with publication in the Official Gazette.
