Dr. Anjani Kumar assumes charge as Director Technical in WCL

Dr. Anjani Kumar assumed charge as Director Technical (Projects & Planning) of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) on 28 September. CMD WCL Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (Finance) Bikram Ghosh and Director Technical Sandeep Paranjape welcomed Dr. Kumar. Prior to joining WCL, Dr. Anjani Kumar was serving as Executive Director (Contracts) at Coal India Limited (CIL) Headquarters, Kolkata, since October 2025.

Dr. Kumar brings with him over 33 years of rich experience in Coal India Limited, with extensive expertise in mining operations, project planning, vigilance, contract management and corporate management. He holds a B.Tech. in Mining Engineering and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from IIT (ISM), Dhanbad. He is also a holder of the First Class Mines Manager’s Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS). He holds an MBA in Human Resources from Sikkim Manipal University and an Executive Diploma in Project Management from the International Institute of Program and Project Management.

Dr. Kumar began his professional career with Coal India Limited in April 1993. He served in various key positions at Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), including as Technical Secretary to the Chairman-cum-Managing Director. Subsequently, he headed the Projects & Planning Department at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).

With his extensive technical, operational and managerial experience in the mining sector, Dr. Anjani Kumar's leadership and result-oriented approach are expected to contribute significantly to WCL's growth and development.
