Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority becomes big administrative issue

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio described the revised Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill 2026 as a mechanism aimed at bridging the development gap in eastern Nagaland. The proposed authority has 62 members and powers covering 46 subjects across six eastern districts. If enacted in its proposed form, the FNTA would create a substantial new layer of legislative, executive, administrative and financial authority in Tuensang, Mon, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak and Shamator. That could eventually require substantial bureaucratic restructuring and new administrative arrangements.
