India-China Border Trade Resumes via Nathu La Pass

Border trade between India and China through the historic Nathu La Pass in Sikkim officially resumed today, marking a significant step toward boosting regional commerce and strengthening economic ties. The annual trading season reopened with official ceremonies along the Indo-China border, drawing local traders, government officials, and community leaders.

Sikkim's Minister for Commerce and Industries, T.T. Bhutia attended the reopening ceremony, emphasizing the strategic and economic importance of Nathu La for the region's prosperity. He highlighted that the resumption of trade will provide vital livelihood opportunities for local merchants, transporters, and businesses that rely heavily on cross-border exchange.

Local traders expressed immense enthusiasm and optimism regarding the trade restart. Merchants noted that the bilateral exchange of goods—ranging from traditional textiles and handicrafts to essential commodities—is crucial for sustaining the local economy. Visuals from the border captured bustling activity as trading passes were verified and goods were readied for transport across the international boundary.
