India-US FTA moved to legal drafting phase: Top negotiator seeks tariff stability
The initial phase of the highly-anticipated India-US bilateral trade agreement has been finalised and is currently undergoing legal drafting. As these final contours take shape, Indian commerce ministry officials emphasize that securing "tariff stability" remains a core priority of the ongoing negotiations.
This first cut aims to resolve immediate market access barriers and establish predictable, long-term pricing structures, which are vital for bolstering investor
confidence. However, officials clarify that the agreement will only be formally
operationalized once Indian exporters are guaranteed a distinct competitive
advantage over peer nations in the US market.
