Streamlining Bureaucracy: Modi Government enforces 'One Officer, One Car' policy

In a direct effort to curb vehicle misuse and prune public expenditure, the Modi government has officially rolled out a strict "One Officer, One Official Car" policy across central ministries and departments. Issued via a comprehensive Office Memorandum from the Finance Ministry’s Department of Expenditure, the fresh directive explicitly mandates that any bureaucrat currently allocated a government car will not get a second one, even when holding additional charges.

This policy shift directly targets entrenched administrative inefficiencies where senior officials, often overseeing multiple departments or portfolios, routinely accumulated multiple official vehicles.
