With the objective to provide a fair deal to tribals in their trade, Trifed hosted a National Workshop on this Centrally Sponsored scheme of GOI under the Chairmanship of Jugal Oraon, Minister for Tribal Welfare, GOI on 25 September at New Delhi. Pravir Krishna is CMD of TRIFED.
The MSP for MFP Scheme has a budget of 1200 crores and is shared with state Govts on a 75:25 basis. The Scheme envisages procurement at and strengthening of Village Haat Bazars where Tribals and other forest dwellers bring their forest produces. It envisages a value chain from the village hats to urban markets focussing on Value Addition in PPP Mode and ploughing back the profits to the gatherers. The state agencies of Forest and Tribal Welfare departments have been given the role of implementing agencies to carry this Scheme forward.
The GOI & State govt also compensates the state agency on account of any loses. The MSP is announced by M/o TW based on a base line survey and recommendations of an Expert Committee chaired by MD Trifed, factoring in the cost of production to the Tribal owners( PESA & FRA gives this right) to rid them from the clutches of the middle men. All 30 states were very enthusiastically represented in the Workshop through their respective Pr Secretaries and MDs of Forest Corporation. A road map has been planned in consultation with states for commencing the operations on a pan India basis from Nov 1 when the MFP SEASON starts. TRIFED will provide all technical support to all states for this.
